The NutraSea Story: It’s What’s Inside That Matters
Since 2003 Since 2003, NutraSea has established a reputation for ultra-pure, great tasting omega-3 products that are unsurpassed in quality and innovation. With an industry-leading portfolio of omega-3 products, NutraSea is a pioneer in great tasting liquid omega-3 as well as plant-based algal formulas.
At the core of the brand are values such as environmental sustainability and conservation. NutraSea was the first natural health product to belong to 1% For the Planet, an organization that directs 1% of all sales to protecting the environment. Through partnerships with organizations such as the David Suzuki Foundation, NutraSea has been a leader in contributing to a healthy planet.
In 2015, original NutraSea manufacturer, Ascenta Health, announced that it had joined with renowned US-based health brand, Nature’s Way. As a division of Nature’s Way, the company’s operations and employees will continue in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Quality Is At The Core of Everything That NutraSea Does
Creating the purest and highest quality natural health products is something NutraSea has always striven for at NutraSea. They believe that when it comes to what we put in our bodies, quality standards shouldn’t just be met – they should be exceeded. And they feel it’s important that each of their customers understands exactly what’s in their bottle of fish oil. NutraSea created the Pure Check program because they wanted their customers to feel confident in knowing that their label claims are met and exceeded and that they are getting the highest quality, purity, and potency available. Every lot of product that they manufacture is subjected to rigorous independent, third-party testing to verify its purity and potency. They then post those test results online so you can see for yourself. Simply enter the lot number from your bottle of any NutraSea product at purecheck.net to view the report.
Good Manufacturing Practices Are The Key
Every NutraSea product is manufactured under government-audited Good Manufacturing Practices. Before their products leave their facility, they’re sent to an external laboratory to ensure they exceed the stringent quality standards of the World Health Organization and the Global Organization for EPA and DHA (GOED). Their plant is a licensed fish processing facility and is certified and audited by the Canadian Natural Health Products Directorate and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. NutraSea uses advanced processing and purification, including molecular distillation, to ensure their end products are pure. Their natural antioxidant blend maintains freshness and guarantees no fishy taste or smell, and the natural triglyceride form of their products provides superior absorption and bioavailability.
Nature provides an abundance of natural ingredients that heal and balance the body. Furthermore, the health of our body is intimately connected to the health of the natural world that surrounds us. When this balance is upset it has an impact on our well-being. NutraSea believes that everything is connected. Healthy people depend on a healthy planet, and vice versa, so their mission it not only to protect your health but to protect the health of the environment. This creates the path for true well-being. In addition to the examples below, their commitment to the environment is also a strong component of their corporate culture and is demonstrated through our partnership with 1% for the Planet. Through this partnership, they are proud to support environmental organizations such as The David Suzuki Foundation.
Protecting and restoring the environment has always been at the heart and soul of Ascenta. Since they were founded in 2003, they’ve made sure that all their practices are environmentally sound: from energy conservation in the office to using recyclable packaging. They’re doing their small part to help ensure that future generations will enjoy and benefit from a healthy environment.
In the Office
Their commitment to the environment begins every day before their team even arrives at work! Ascenta provides incentives to employees to encourage them to choose environmentally friendly transportation: carpooling, walking, or biking to work, and/or owning fuel-efficient vehicles or hybrids. At the office, lights and temperatures are programmed to conserve energy and they use energy-efficient lighting. They carefully follow eco-purchasing criteria for office appliances and computers, and they minimize air travel by using conferencing technology for business meetings as much as possible. They love to get together for office potlucks and other food-centric events and make sure their food choices are local and organic. At work, they avoid the use of chemicals, and choose environmentally-friendly cleaning products and natural inks. All office printer paper is 100% recycled, and electronic document sharing and duplex printing are encouraged. Composting and recycling are must-dos at this head office!
They’ve also teamed up with Bullfrog Power to reduce their carbon footprint. Bullfrog Power is a Canadian company that injects renewable energy onto local or regional grids, matching the amount of power used by homes and businesses. Bullfrog’s electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities certified by Environment Canada as low-impact.
And Beyond The Office
From what goes into the company’s bottles to the packages themselves, they consider the environment. They source the highest quality raw ingredients from sustainable, natural sources. They place great emphasis on sustainability to ensure that what’s here today isn’t gone tomorrow. Their oils are derived from sustainably harvested wild stocks that are closely regulated and monitored by government authorities. They have progressively worked toward diversification to avoid putting pressure on any one resource. Packaging for their products is recyclable, and all corporate materials are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, a non-profit organization that works for the responsible management of the world’s forests.
Ascenta has been recognized by Dalhousie University’s Eco-Efficiency Centre through the Environmental Excellence in Business Award. The award is presented to companies that, after a thorough environmental audit, have proven to be proactive in achieving higher levels of economic and environmental performance.
EASY TO TRUST
Pure Check is a quality assurance program through which every lot of product is third party tested for quality, purity and label claims. The pure check quality test results are posted online for you to see, providing a unique level of transparency assuring you that your product is of the highest quality. Pure Check is the only program where every lot of product is tested and posted online.
Pure Check guarantees that every lot of product meets label claims. This means that the amount of EPA DHA in the bottle is equal or greater to that stated on the label. Third party testing is important to guarantee label claims. Over half of the fish oil brands on the market do not meet label claims. EPA/DHA label claims are not regularly enforced. Consumers are left to ensure that they are getting what they pay for.
Pure Check guarantees that every lot of product is pure. Third party testing is important to guarantee purity. Why is purity important? Our oceans have become polluted. All fish contain environmental contaminants such as heavy metals, dioxins and furans and therefore need to undergo purification. Everyone taking a fish oil supplement should make sure that their product is third party tested for purity. Oils not properly stored or processed can generate oxidation by products, a marker of rancidity. Pure Check tests for: Mercury Arsenic Dioxin-like PCBs Lead PCBs Dioxins and furans Cadmium Oxidation by-products (Peroxide, Anisidine)
